When stressed, overworked, tired, or distracted, we are all more likely to react to difficult situations in a harmful way. When we yell, clench our teeth, or even vent, we often hurt ourselves and our experience. I am no different.
I created BAY LEAF as a mnemonic for myself to deal with situations that cause me distress:
- Breathe
- Accept
- ask whY
- Listen
- Empathize
- Appreciate
- Forgive
BAY LEAF is not about pleasing your patients or your staff. It provides a way to improve your mindset for your own sanity and experience.
Ultimately, your patients and colleagues will benefit, but the main benefactor of this practice is you.
